The UK Resuscitation Council guidelines includes specific recommendations for the standards of clinical practice and training in CPR and emergency first aid for Dental Professionals & Practices and for those employed in Primary Care centres - including GPs.

The recommendations state that health care professionals (and other staff involved in patient care) should be able to demonstrate competence in CPR (including the use of airway adjuncts and defibrillators as available). The Guidelines specify a maximum of 6 to 12 months between assessment and training sessions in resuscitation and the maintenance of a formal record of training.

Non-medical staff can be trained in CPR and AED use from scratch, whereas medical professionals can update and practice their resuscitation skills with an absolute minimum of disruption to their busy schedules.

BLS Sessions can be combined with AED training and can include the use of airway adjuncts, resuscitation drugs and current ALS protocols (for professional staff).
